COMPLETION OF #MISSION1000BEDS

Mission 1000 Beds has quickly transformed from an initiative to a nationwide movement in healthcare. With the support of our beneficiaries, donors and partners — the foundation has been able to consistency intervene, assist and optimise the functionings of healthcare bodies in fighting the pandemic. Under this initiative, we covered 14 hospitals in 11 states. We were able to provide 1020 Beds, 805 O2 Cylinders, 115 ventilators, 388 BiPAP machines, 985 Patient Monitors and other critical care equipment. Along with this, 17,912 PPE Kits were provided to 8 hospitals across 6 states.

Shedding further light on the thought behind this initiative, YouWeCan Foundation’s Chairperson Ms Shabnam Singh said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has made us aware of the need for better healthcare infrastructure, especially at the grassroot level areas of the country. I hope that we never have to face such a situation again. Mission 1000 Beds is our attempt to help boost the healthcare infrastructure of the country. Through this initiative, we have scaled up the critical care capacity of several Government hospitals in tier 2 and 3 cities across India by 10%.”

As we celebrate the completion of Mission 1000 Beds, we are proud to have created an impact that will have a long lasting effect on healthcare. While this was a rapid response to the pandemic — Mission 1000 beds was designed to be a long term solution. Facilities built and empowered are created to last at least ten years. As the pandemic ends, beds can continue to be used for cancer patient and others requiring critical care. Wherever possible, post COVID, we will work with partner hospitals to convert the facilities into Cancer/Oncology Wards, to address the shortage of 42% of Cancer Beds in the Country. This model has been built with the primary goal of optimizing our two most crucial resources: time and finance, while maximizing impact. Cost of setting up 1000 critical care beds under this model will be around Rs. 22.5 Cr while the cost of setting up a new hospital with similar facilities would be over Rs. 1000Cr. A new 1000 beds hospital would take 2-3 years to build, whereas we delivered each project in our project in around 15-45 days. “It is a big feather in our cap and a big moment for our Foundation as well as for all our partners and donors who have supported our mission of transforming India’s healthcare system. I pray that there is no further wave of COVID-19 and going forward the infrastructure built by us through the Mission 1000 Beds initiative will be converted to cancer wards and continue to support critical care requirements of cancer patients for over 10 years,” says Yuvraj Singh (Founder, YouWeCan Foundation)
